Do poultry manures have to be fermented before they can be used as fertilizer?

Many friends think that poultry manure such as pig manure, chicken manure, cow manure, etc. can be directly used as fertilizer without fermentation. That’s wrong. Unfermented poultry manure is harmful. The following are the hazards of unfermented poultry manure.
1. Destroying the soil
Unfermented poultry manure is poured into the soil. The unfermented manure will decompose in the soil and produce harmful gases, such as methane and ammonia, which will cause acid damage to the soil and cause plant root damage. It will also consume oxygen in the soil, which makes the soil in an oxygen-deficient state so that cause damage to plants.
2. Burning roots and seedlings
Non-fermented poultry manure is applied to crops, because it is not fermented or fermented completely, it cannot be directly absorbed and utilized by the roots of plants, and the phenomenon of “secondary fermentation” will occur. When the fermented part is close to the root or the crop plant is small, the heat generated by the fermentation will affect the growth of the crop and in severe cases, it will lead to plant death.

3. Breeding pests and diseases
The feces contain bacteria and pests such as coliforms and nematodes. Direct use will cause the spread of pests and diseases. When the unripe organic matter is fermented in the soil, it is easy to breed bacteria and insect pests, leading to the occurrence of plant diseases and insect pests.
Therefore, if you want to use poultry manure as fertilizer, it must be fermented and can only be used after it is completely decomposed. After the fermentation is successful, it is an organic fertilizer. We have many types of equipment for fermenting, and different equipment plans need to be formulated according to the different materials and capacity. Welcome to contact us for specific information.
